I have been through it.
A word of warning to those I know who are currently reading this book or planning to read it:
This book was rough. Just frickin' rough.
Like I am going to need a full complement of the Jane Austen novels after this. Like maybe some Tolkien therapy--I don't know. Some serious Anne of Green Gables stuff is in order after what I've been through.
That is all.

rough in which way? Hard to understand? Bad language? Violence? Or did it suck?
Disturbing. Mucho disturbing.
Does it make you regret that you bought the trilogy in hardback or do you want to move on to The Girl Who Played with Fire?
Kinda, yes, I'm regretting it. I really didn't have a desire to move on to the second book, and I'm not impressed with it so far. I'm considering chucking this whole venture and selling them on eBay.
The first book had a really interesting premise with the whole locked room mystery on an island, but then it just devolved into a really upsetting episode of Law and Order: SVU. I avoid that show for a reason!
Also, Larsson is a talented writer, but he's not great. I don't love his writing the way I love Donna Tartt's, for example. I don't feel like I'd be missing anything brilliant if I stopped reading his work.
Where are you in the books and what's your take?
I finished tattoo. I found the story intriguing and disturbing. I don't see me recommending the books to anyone, but I think I'll proceed. I'll definitely catch the movie.
hmmm..after reading your comments, I'm thinking I should just borrow these from someone?
