Beautiful Snack

I love pomegranates. They're tasty, and they're gorgeous to boot (which a snack ought to be if it possibly can). Like a bowlful of shiny little garnets.

No wonder Persephone couldn't resist.

This is something else I've never tried but always wanted to. How do you eat them? I almost bought one today, but wasn't sure what to do with it.

The easiest way to cut them is to first cut out the top part that sticks up. Then take your knife and score along the six natural break lines that run along the pomegranate, from the top to the bottom. You'll be able to feel the lines of depression along the outside. After you've done that, break it apart and remove the seeds. Some will come tumbling out and some will need to be loosened. Then just pop them in your mouth. They're sweet and tart and juicy and crunchy. Delicious!

Some people also break pomegranates over a bowl of water, because the seeds will float to the top, but I think that's an extra step that's unnecessary.

so you just eat the seeds and nothing else?

Yep, that's it. The inside is full of seeds. There's not really anything else in there to eat.
